The Gadsden Whirl-a-Ways is a "Western" Square Dance Club sponsored by the Gadsden Recreation Department. You will find square dancing's appeal is social, cultural and physical appealing. It is inter-generational, excellent exercise, and a fun activity. Once you are involved in square dancing you make friends for life. Alcoholic beverages are never allowed. A "square" is made up of four couples. Usually, a couple consist of one male and one female as partners. A series of lessons are required before a person is able to dance at "club level", that is become a member of the Whirl-a-Ways and participate in club dances as well as all other clubs in the world. Classes are offered by the club when needed; usually once a year beginning in January. Currently, the Recreation Departments furnishes a place for our club to dance at the Activities Center on Broad Street. Dances are held every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Anyone interested is cordially invited to drop by the center and observe a group of people having a great time enjoying a wonderful activity. |
